Congenital msenteric defect is one of rare causes of acute intestinal obatruction in infants and children. Because of its rarity and difficulty of diagnosis the mortality and morbidity were wery high. So, the surgeon should remember the
possibility
of
transmesenteric hernia in the management of intestinal obstrution of unknown origin in pediatric patients.
We experienced two cases of transmesenteric hernia in infants. In the first case, we could not diagnose internal herniation, preoperatively. But in the last case, thanks to the experience of the first case, we could consider the posibility of
transmesenteric hernia and decided emergency operation. In both cases, the small bowels were herniated through meseanteric defects of ileum. They showed gangrenous change, and resection of necrotic bowels was performed. They all recovered after
operations and discharged in good condition.
